Fresh Modern Residence, Canada

Clearview Residence has been designed by Toronto-based Altius Architecture. Completed in 2011, the contemporary property is located in Clearview, Ontario, Canada.
According to the architects the contemporary Canadian property was designed for a local artist to enjoy, the residence is located just south of Collingwood, in the heart of the Clearview area. A broad selection of sustainable technologies, including a geothermal lake loop and green house set this project apart from others in the area. The building itself draws inspiration from a number of intimate relationships and views, both through the adjacent woodland, as well as across the nearby pond.
The buildings programme is pretty extensive and with the clients desire to maintain the majority of this over one level the design team were particularly aware of the need to integrate the building into its surroundings in a subtle manor. Consequently this quickly became one of our main focuses and thus gave the scheme real direction, as they sought to arrange each space appropriately within the overall layout so to take advantage of the site and its beauty as well as to make sure that the building was as user friendly and functional as possible.
The material palette was of particular importance as it was paramount that the contemporary Canadian property became steeped within its surroundings, and so they decided to pursue a selection of materials that would reflect the nature of adjacent landscape and in particular its seasonally changing colours and textures. True to this they incorporated the ever evolving characteristics of corten steel, the earthy tones of a deep grey/blue ‘Cape Cod’ pre-finished wood siding, as well as other products like slate and ipe wood decking. Fresh Modern Med

A tiled roof, stucco finish and decorative arches lend a California feeling to this Mediterranean-style property in Alexandria. The owners asked landscape designer Morgan Washburn of Botanical Decorators to create outdoor spaces that would complement their home’s minimalist interiors, provide plenty of entertaining space and suit the needs of their active family. Washburn devised an innovative, contemporary design, locating a pool at the rear of the long, narrow lot and renovating an old garage to serve double duty as a pool house and space for cars. An upper terrace of Turkish travertine seamlessly connects indoor and outdoor rooms, while gracious, wide steps descend to the garden level.
An open, elliptical lawn conceals a cistern underneath that catches rainwater from downspouts and feeds the garden’s irrigation system. A curved stucco wall on one side of the lawn houses a built-in fireplace; upright yews in surrounding beds will eventually hide most views of the pool, lending a mysterious air to the rear of the property. Washburn considers “very strong geometry and monochromatic plantings” to be the highlights of the design.

Interesting architecture in Portland

A young man from Portland was able to turn his house into a beautiful work of art. Although at first sight everything seems to be something created without premeditation and without meaning, it is not so. He managed to combine  the old Gothic style with modernism, and came out something quite nice. The house can be called "eyebrow" due to his unseen form. I will let you alone to appreciate the work of this young architect.
