Transforming two one bedroom duplex suits into one two bedroom duplex was not an easy job for architects from Slade Architecture. Located in New York City, the Gramercy Duplex displays a contemporary floor plan that includes a living space on the lower level with a kitchen and powder room on one side and a master bedroom suite on the other. Many storage spaces across the duplex allow the inhabitants to hide any clutter, while high-tech systems like the remotely activated drop down LCD TV in the living room are prepared to offer quality entertainment. The kitchen features a movable island that allows the owner to reconfigure the space while the “walnut base cabinetry, Richlite countertops and satin etched glass upper cabinets” adorn the white space. A staircase extending from the kitchen cabinets connects the two levels. On the same floor as the living room, the master bedroom contains the sleeping functions and some cleverly designed additions: “The vanity floats in the middle of the space and doubles as the headboard and side tables for the bed. The toilet and bath/shower are built into the back wall of the space.” The upstairs is occupied by the daughter’s bedroom and a guest room, making this residence perfect for the inhabitant’s modern lifestyle.
